Another big part of our life together is my commitment to the Army. While the house was being framed and covered, the 43rd Army Band spent two weeks in Hawaii for our annual training. (Basically, we commit one weekend a month, and two weeks every summer to training, rehearsing, and concerts.) Typically, the two weeks are spent touring Nebraska playing multiple concerts across the state. Every 5-6 years, we go "somewhere." This year we spent two weeks at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in Hawaii. We served as replacement strength for the 25th Infantry Division Band from there, that is currently deployed. We played two Change of Command ceremonies, two concerts at the Hale Koa (military resort on Waikiki Beach), numerous small ensemble performances, and one concert for 40,000 people on Schofield for the "4th of July Spectacular." Most of our missions coincided with places we all wanted to see (eg. Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, etc.). I've included a sampling of pictures - but there are a ton more on facebook - ones I took as well as a bunch that others in my unit took.
